To John Richardson.
I do like the CD John and thank you for getting it for me.
Making a purchase without having heard it was a bit of a gamble of course. However I DO like it.
I hope no one is offended when I say that I thought the Magdeburg choir had the edge.
It seems that, once again, the re-union was enjoyed by all, at least as far as I can tell. But isn't it always the same?

Hi Mac
thank you for your critical comments. Next time you can pay the full price.
The Magdeburg choir has a chequered history, it used to be known as the "Druschba-Ensemble" (Friendship-ensemble) representing the Magdeburg Soviet-German society. After the fall of the wall in 1990, it became the Magdeburg Police Choir.
The conductress, Mrs. Shmetova, is the wife of the former Director of Music of 3 Shock Army in Magdeburg! They were gobsmacked in 1991 when I talked to them in russian. (Think they thought I was a spy or summatt). Be that as it may, they are artistically very professional, as is the choir.
The recording was done live in the church! So there were no take-outs or repeats, shows what a high standard both choirs achieved.
Glad you liked the CD. _________________ John Richardson |

Thanks for that info John. I listened to the CD again this afternoon (for the umpteenth time).
The other day I played an old LP of The Huddersfield Choral Society + Sir Malcolm Sargent. Recorded in 1959.....Wonderful!
Bye for now John.
