I know that this is not a ne subject as far as its death is concerned but did anyone else see the correspondence on this subject in the Times this week?
Something about mobile phones and the letter 'M' . All above my he3ad, I am afraid.

Hi Paul, Re the mobile phones. In order to let the owner know a text message has been received, a mobile phone emits an audible signal, on it's initial release this signal would have been three dots two dashes three dots, ie SMS, which I believe stood for short message service. Hence the letters to the Times. As soon as the purchaser gets to grip with the phone, they change this audible signal to the latest celebrity jingle, which is why you don't hear SMS very much. I must admit it still bring a quick tear to the eye when some dinasour (an owner over 40) still has the SMS signal and I hear it on the shop floor. All the best. Not one of your chaps, is she, by any chance? If so, that is more the sort of behaviour one would expect from the I. Corps, rather than the 'Signals'!
Anyway, I have saved you spending 70p on a copy of The Times: back to the sunshine and the crossword. Ta ta for now. Life is hard.
