Hi Guys, Just to say that unfortunately I shall not be staying at Loughborough over the weekend, so those of you who are going just to see me may be a bit disappointed. On the plus side I will be coming on Saturday for the AGM and will stay as long I’m welcome. Having said, that I’m really looking forward to meeting you all again. All the best, Dave T.

Hi Guys, I am absolutely gutted, have just heard I have a hospital appointment next Thursday for a minor op. which invoves me staying in for a couple of days as I am being put to sleep for it.Unfortunately I cannot postpone as I am going off to Florida for 3 weeks in mid June. This was to have been my first re-union and I was looking forward to meeting up with mates of 53 years ago. Paul Croxson, Pete Ellis, Bob Wells, Pete Jones and others. Just think of all the beers I will be missing. I hope you all have a great time. Will be thinking of you all. Keih.

Hi Guys, Ken, I know how disappointed you are, but if you are very good, I’ll let you buy my lunch. I noticed Vic Swain put his telephone number on the BVA site last week, so on Wednesday I gave him a ring. He’s been in Turkey for about three years, so hasn’t been to a reunion recently. We spoke of some of the people we knew, he remembers you (he thinks). I emailed him after we spoke, but so far I haven’t received a reply. All the best. Dave.

KERBY, get the nurses to push you in your bed to the re-union. This behaviour is totally unacceptable. I was relying on you to tell me what I did for all of those 15 months in Langeleben.

Hi again Guys. Dave B, Sorry not to have replied to your post before, I must admit I was quite looking forward to having a chat, you being from the sunny side of the country. We’ll have to look at having a West Country reunion for the guys from this part of the world.
Ken, before moving to Turkey Vic lived in Northampton and I got the impression that he had at least been to a Loughborough reunion, if not one in Koningslutter; so others on the site might have met up with him in the not too distant past. All the best. Dave T.

Is Vic Swain trying to lose us? it looks like he has moved house at least twice without informing us, I have his last address as Arnold in Nottinghamshire, then it seems he moved to Northampton and is now sunning it in Turkey, if you can contact him again please ask him to furnish me with his current and any future addresses.

PostPosted: Tue May 27, 2008 8:10 am    Post subject: COMPLAINTS WITH THE BURLEIGH COURT HOTEL Reply with quote

Ernie, in his report, said that since he had not received any complaints that 'all was well' with the Burleigh Court Hotel. THIS IS FAR FROM THE TRUTH
Personally I had several problems but intended taking them up with the hotel direct. A number of them applied to quite a lot of people as I discovered talking to others.
1. The same trouble as with previous years with the key system. I had to have mine re-programmed and one person I ws talking to had had to have his done THREE times. The staff although very tolerant, must be sick and tired of this.
2. The TV would not work on BBC1; again this complaint was made by a number of people.
3. The internet service via the keyboard did not function at all and only intermittently with the TV control. Completely useless
4. and for me the most serious - the bath was so slippery that when getting into the shower I slipped over completely, hurting my back and head. Frankly I was lucky it ws not more serious.
5. The price of wine was frankly extortionate. A glass costing more than a full bottle would have cost retail. So much so that I could not accept the offers from various friends to buy me a drink with a clear conscience. My temperance has probably ruined my reputation for ever

In case Ernie thinks that I am wingeing unreasonably may I ask that anyone who has any complaints (I heard many) about the hotel should voice them now?
I would point out that I am only voicing these publicly now in view of Ernie's 'secretary's report' otherwise I would have dealt with them direct.
The rooms are of a good size and, when 'up-graded, hankyou Ernie)excellent value but these problems do detract from the week-end.

Paul, I noticed that you posted your message under the topic of NEXT WEEKEND instead of REUNION 2008, are you sure that you went to the correct hotel at the right time? Other than yours I only had one complaint all weekend, you can't please everybody all of the time.

Shall we wait and see, Ernie, if following my posting, others register complaints?

Paul, may-be all those members queing up to complain about Burleigh Court do not have access to the forum, perhaps you can post your views on the guestbook to reach a wider audience.
