2011OK You Lot, You’ve had a chance to get over the last little bash, what can we do next? We’ve got a year to think about it, anyone any ideas? I did wonder if there might perhaps be a few members around the country who would like to make the trip, but for some reason or another can’t, there might be some way we as a group may be able to help them. Ferinstance, a minibus trip. All the best. Dave.

Not too sure what you mean Dave. What have you in mind?

Hi Tom, Nice to see someone responds, so we know we’re not talking to ourselves. Primarily I think I am seeking to build on the success of this years endeavour. Where, for three whole days there were things to do, places to go, and things to see; if you wanted to, you could be totally immersed in the Langeleben experience. We all know we can’t repeat this years events, I certainly would not want to, it was unique, something I was proud to be part of, but most certainly a one off. The sort of thing I have in mind is an event that a significant number of us can buy into. “A barbeque (pig roast) in the Hartz”, “Something at Steinhudemeer”, “A return visit to the VW factory” (I wasn’t there for the last one), “A coach tour of places”, “A guided tour of the old border installations”. Something we could do as a group, probably on a coach so that we can enjoy a drink if we want to. These are just random thoughts, there must be hundreds of other ideas people would like to do.
My thoughts on the Minibus for members, who have difficulties, are rather separate, but something I’m prepared to look into if a few guys think it is worth perusing.
All the best. Dave

As proof of my thinking this is a good idea, I raised the idea of going by coach for this year's bash but was told that with the wide spread of members it was not feasible. I didn't argue. I do however think that it is feasible with say, a pick-up at the tunnel where there is plenty of parking and excellent train access. \i am certainly never driving again particularly single-handed and I don't fly nowadays.
presuming I am still around and vaguely healthy put me down for a window seat on the right hand side with plenty of legroom.

I raised the idea of a charabanc trip to Germany whilst at Corps Day and without exception everyone, particularly some wives who had not bothered to attend reunions before, thought it an excellent idea.
Some more places to throw into the discussion in addition to Robbie's excellent 'Hertz' and the VW Factory might be - Munster, Birgelen, Magdeburg, Berlin. I will probably be accused of being a bit of a Philistine but, now the stone is in place and the Camp site merely a fond memory, there isn't that much to draw me back to Konigslutter. for too long; one day would be ample. It's different, I suppose for those with famililial connections but their views which will be in the minority should not dominate. There is now nothing of the town I vaguely recall - at best.
May we ask Marlene to put this in the next Newsletter so that we get to those who do not use the Forum and those who have no electronic connection?

Hi Robbie. Cheers for that, The Brockelbahn suggestion is smack on, the steam train raises memories of being shunted around Temple Meeds stations when I were a lad and dad worked on the railways. If the coach idea comes off and we had our own coach over there, we could probably arrange trips to suit those who were there and wanted to go somewhere special. If we can’t retain our own coach, then there is no reason why we shouldn’t hire one locally and do the same things. Keep the grey cells churning.
All the best. Dave.
