50 Years

As it is so quiet at the moment, it has given me time to think. Today marks FIFTY YEARS since I became part of the Royal Signals Fraternity. A lot of water has flowed under the bridge since then. But I can honestly say, that a finer set of friends I couldnt have wished for. Not just Signals, but all Arms and Corps. I would like to say a big thankyou to you all, and CHEERS. Gerry.

Re: 50 Years

Congratulations on your 'Gold' Gerry.

This week also marks 40 years for me since I first arrived at the gate to serve as the new NAAFI girl on the block.

It still seems like yesterday.

Get yer knees brown Joskin Kane, this month it will be 52 years since I got my travel warrant to Catterick and a four shilling postal order as my first days pay, happy days.

Sorry Ernie but have a photo hung in my lounge picturing a very young couple of lads, Tom Neal and myself together with the rest of 34/331 Troop, Royal Signals.  Dated Oct, 1955.  Together with instructors Sgt. Green and Cpl. Gilbert.  I make that 54 years come Sept. when we actually signed on!...............................

Just thought, I am also expecting replies from Pete Ellis and Bob Wells,  Keith
Bob Wells

I have a feeling that Peter might of arrived at 101 before me. I'll have to ask him.  But I left 10WTS in August 1954 and it was November of that year  that I found myself at 101.

I had a word with Peter this morning and he confirmed that he did not arrive at Langeleben until early 1955.  I do recall that Ernie Copper was there before me

I feel like a sprog again listening to you lot, I was at Catterick when England won the World Cup, a mere 43 years!

May I join in?
I arrived in Munster in April 55 immediately they closed it down and we went to what we then called it Munchen Gladbach (I don't know when we learned to call it Birgelen). Recognising my inate talents I was immediately rushed to Langeleben where I stayed until July 56 so being there 15 months, for some time a record.
I am looking forward to seeing Pete Jones and Kerby again, its been over 50 years since last we met.I have met Bob & Pete Ellis a
the other re-unions, Bob with his secret of eternal youth. I bet the rest will no longer be the slim graceful louts that we were. I definitely have put on a few stone (four) and struggle to maintain my voluptuous size 18. I can hardly believe that weedy berk in the photos was me and that one Marlene put  in the newsletter was very kind too!
I am glad that it is the Cambrai band we are to march behind. At one stage we were threatened with the Ghurkhas and having to March at 180 ppm
