Mr V.
How dare you call the I Corps a 'can of worms'. 'Canned' possibly sometimes I must confess, but worms?
Cheers

Intelegence Corps personnelNearly seventy names and only two defections Brian Patchett and Panda Arnold, the other 68 must have really enjoyed Langeleben.

I had heard of 'Slack Alice' but not her brother Graham before.

That is the one I remember too Ron. It came as a big surprise to hear that he had gone 'walkies'.
His nickname I rec all came about duuring his time in Cyprus when he had fallen asleep wearing dark glasses. You can guess the rest

As far as i am concerned the list is continually open. But then, Tom has valiantly volunteered to monitor the Forum and amend the list. When he offered I don't think he expected this number of rteplies and the interest

Many thanks for all your little grey cells and their efforts.
I went to a meeting of the iIntelligence Corps Trustees re the Beano next year and was able to produce the list "up until then" and they were amazed.
Despite the fact that 1/3 of the Corps have been in Sigint the Museum virtually ignores them. Now Col Angus Southwood who was at Langeleben, Gatow and Birgelen and is a Life member of our lot and I are tasked with putting forward ideas to put this right. Well done and keep the names flowing.

How much, JR, do you want for your address book?
Amazing. Poor old Tom. now has some work to do updating the list.

One name that Tom should add (PLEASE) is that of Col. Angus Southwood who despite Ernie's efforts to 'disappear' him remains a Life Langeleben member and a great fan. He was at Langeleben, Gatow and Birgelen, i/c voice ops in the good old Mercury Grass days. He should be joining us next June. he is the Sigint Rep on the board of Trustees at the Int Corps Museum and is being very active on this QLR wagon transportation problem.
By the way, the two QLRs will be at the Forties revival at Chatham Dockyard this Saturday and Sunday. If anyone fancies a beer I'll be there at 10.30am and in the chair

I Corps Personnel at LangelebenTerry Brenchley here
Terry Whittles appears to be missing from the list .. he arrived at Langeleben with me from the Russian Linguist course in February 1969.
I don't know how long he stayed!!

INTELLIGENCE CORPS PERSONNEL WHO SERVED AT LANGELEBEN 1952 TI see the name Roger Bannister on the list, is that THE Roger Bannister or just a copycat?

I expect his Mum thought him as being 'the' Roger Bannister' but I don't think he was the 4 min man

Hey you guys, What time do you think this is. Keith - Op Spec 54/56
|
paul croxson
|
Its quite easy to tell the time Keith.
The little hand tells you the hour and the big hand the minutes. That is unless you have a digital watch!
By the way, did you know that hours and minutes go back to Babylonian times when they did their calculations on base '60' not base '10' like us (unless you are lost in the world of binary etc etc.?
Amazing what you learn watching TV.
I hope that you are keeping well.
I didn't realize that we had a Postie in 55/56. What a cushy job that must have been, sloping off to Brunswick every day for a handfull of letters for about 60 blokes many of whom could hardly read anyway (I Corps). Did you know him? No one ever wrote to me which might acount for my ignorance. There was one married chap who had a letter every day, I recall

I thought I was at Langeleben too, must have been dreaming.
|
paul croxson
|
Obviously no one remembered you Mike.
Alternatively I just missed you off the list which is far more likely!
I will amend the list immediately with the always present assistance of Tom.
By the way, I had the priviledge of being the Discriminator for B Watch at Langeleben from April '55 to July '56. Did you not see the blue plaque on the side of the int Wagon?
|
Ernie Callaghan
|
I think I remember you Mike, you were not dreaming, just permanently comatose like the rest of us in those heady days. I was on B watch at the same time with Rusty Rosson and Bob Wells. The other I Corps guys on our watch Jim Hayes and Roger Bannister were sent to the cookhouse on a midty to make the tea and cheese on toast for the watch, instead of putting the tea bags in the two buckets and infusing with hot water from the boiler tap they put a bucket load of tea bags directly into the boiler and made 50 litres of very weak tea. They spent their 36 hours off cleaning out the boiler.
