Hi Guys. We arrived back from Germany late last night, having spent six wonderful days in and around Koningslutter. You will be pleased to learn that some of the people who post on this site actually do exist, there’re not just figments of someone’s fevered imagination. Us proper soldiers were out numbered by the National Service contingent, I never knew so many of them served at Langelaben. It was a great event, thanks guys for your efforts in putting it on, and for the rest of you for attending. Those of you who couldn’t make it, missed a great time, All the best, Dave T.

Dewi, my Hanham Hunk, glad to hear that you all had a great time but I now await St Pauls epistle on your comment of 'Us proper Soldiers', surely he will not let you get away with that. One day, when that Scottish Git, who was COTE and is now PM in waiting, decides to ease taxes on we poor self employed Light Hauliers I, well we, my Senior Management knows P Horse and my past, may join you but until that day, I rely on you and Tom and the others to 'feed me'.

Hi Mike, Good to here from you, and yes, for me the reunion would have been better if you could have made it. For one thing I wouldn’t have had to buy so many beers, keeping the Viper, Paul C, Tom and the committee in liquid refreshment quite wears me out. I do hope you and shorep will be able to make it in 2009. On Friday we visited the camp, from the photo’s recently posted, I thought that all the buildings had be razed, but when we got there, at least two of the living accommodation blocks were still standing, as were the garages and stores at the top of the site. I sneaked a look into my old barrack room, the sinks and lockers are still there, and Yes, they have replaced the sink Dave Wilson chipped in a fit of pique one night. Of course it is looking very sad, but it is amazing just how much nature has reclaimed, if you don’t come in 09, there really will be nothing left. It will be no use Marlene going revisiting, all her haunts have well and truly gone. The NAAFI is a heap of rubble, the swimming pool where she lay drinking gin and tonic all day is unrecognizable all that is left is the memorial to the Kinderheim children and the Quelle where she use to sit sunning herself in the afternoons. David, note how I teturn to to English when I am being serious. Langeleben to me was 225 and yet 225 to me, was and in my heart of hearts, always will be the Glider Fields of Scharfoldendorf. Don't misunderstand me, Langeleben has two spots in my memory, 225 MARK 2 and the birthplace of Gordon Banks's wife.
For those who came to Langeleben from elsewhere and I am talking of from when it became 225 Sigs, it was like arriving at Butlins. Yet, ask any 225 from Scharfoldendorf which location they preferred and I think it would not be Butlins. For those who read this and wonder what I gibbering about, Scharfoldendorf was, to me, the most magical of postings, there is now't bad I can say about it.
Equally, there is now't bad I can say about Langeleben, probably what I mean is that there is NOW'T bad I can say about 225 Signal Squadron. I remember Trotski, the Moufflon, breaking ice on the Swimming Pool on Christmas Day 1967 and then plunging in. Certain areas of me anantomy have never recovered and that explains a lot.
I thank the powers that be that I had 3 wonderful postings, the latter being Birgelin from 1968 to 1971. Hindsight, being a wonderful thing, should I go or should I stay? I wish I had stayed; but at the time thought I had made the right decision and still thought so until 1998.
Be afraid, be VERY AFRAID, one day I may knock upon your door, the reason you should be VERY AFRAID, is that I may have P Horse in tow.

Yo Hanham Hustler,have you got extreme jet crap or wot,'it would have been better if Hudson had been there'?????You reckon you would have not had to buy so many beers,think that over will you.I would have attended but for a Sunday day shift last week,and mainly it would entail leaving England aboard a jcb to finish the demolision job that needs finishing.I bet the telephone exchange is still there as well as Gobbi's office!!
Oh by the way,is anybody singing happy birthday for me???????

This is very sad...GIN???? Moi?? Wash your mouth out! I love the odd tipple of Vodka but at Langeleben my drink was Cinzano OR Babysham and brandy. In fact when I had two wisdom teeth out at Wolfenbuttel, I was in so much pain that evening I had 7 (yes SEVEN) Babysham and brandies to kill the pain. Ray Irvin carried me back to my billet, gentleman that he was, bless him.

Mind you there was always the famous Underberg to put you right the next morning!

Seriously, I kind of don't want to see it as it is now as I still see it as it was the morning I left. You know what I mean.
