I was in Langeleben and on that day Jim and Jean Thornton and i opened our Naafi quarters doors and had a moon landing party in our living room. It was choc-a-block full but what an occasion.

Hi Marlene,
July ’69 Moon Landing and where was I? To tell the truth I simply cannot recall, I know I thought it a tremendous achievement, but alas there was a lot more going on closer to home. We had recently got married, we lived in a hiring in Salisbury, 3 Div (being Strategic Reserve) I had been warned for deployment to Northern Ireland, Rose went into hospital, and I had to find someone to look after the dog at no notice. Associated with the topic and of interest is that a few years later, while on a joint service exercise in Ecuador Neil Armstrong came to visit us, and we all sat around a fire in the jungle looking up at the moon, with the guy who had actually been there. That’s my claim to fame, (a bit sad really). Dave.

I got my two twin daughters, out of bed then two years and a month old (them, not the bed) and sat them down in front of the TV to watch the landing. They were very good and did so. Yesterday one confessed she couldn't remember a thing! Not surprising really!
When they get to 100 they will be able to sit in the corner and say (to everyone's amazement, "I saw the moon landing you know".
Now Dave, that is really sad!
I once lived in a village in Hampshire and there was an old guy there who claimed that his Grandfather had seen Napoleon. Being a disbelieving cove I checked. It was possible. It seems that thousands had gone to see him as he walked around the deck of the ship on which he was imprisoned
