Hi All, Great to read all your comments, I'm not quite sure where Marleen's Granny fits into the Langelaben story, but perhaps I'm too far down the bottle of red. Tom perhaps you can explain the reasoning behind moving the School of Sigs. Is there some great tactical advantage of St Athen over Blandford, is it more difficult for the Russians infiltrate? will 21st century Signalers find it easier to learn their trade in North Wales than we did in Dorset? Is Red Draggon better than Boddingtons? Or is it just that the land values of Dorset will raise more for MoD than St Athens will, with or without planning permission? Not that I am being cynical or anything, no doubt there is a very valid reason to move the School, but having bbeen there during one of their many rebuilding projects, one has to wonder how it is all being paid for. All the best. Dave T.

Like you with your red Dave, maybe it's me and my nightly tipple of vodka (except when babysitting) but I don't understand your mailing..my granny isn't even mentioned in this thread gawd bless 'er. By the way, if I may be so bold as to say, 'Marleen'...ouch! Beryl Reed used to take off a "Maaarleeen from Birmingham" and I swore never to answer to that..I may be NAAFI but I ain't common mate
My name is pronounced Marleena (phonetic) or at least Marlane (phonetic) which is a diminutive of Maria-Helena. Hope you don't mind me saying.
Where does Dorset fit into the story? It's just me and old Gypo are going there for our holidays this year? My granny was never in the sigs at Dorset with or without a bottle of red or a bottle of vodka.
Happy St Paddy's day!
Marl just a little tiddly tonight...brace yerself Gypo!!!!!

Hello Dave,
St Athen covers a very very large area and someone in government has decided that it can hold a large number of units and among many others the School of Signals is one of them to be moved.
As far as I know at present the plan is that RHQ, The Band, The White Helmets and the Museum will stay in Blandford to be joined later on by !4 Signal Regt. After the millions spent on the School and then the cost to re-establish it in Wales it is no wonder that there is not enough money for troop's equipment etc.
