Listening Post

Marlene has asked me to pass on the following letter which is self-explanatory. It is one of several that have come following the publishing of the first 'Listening Post'.
"Dear Editor,
About a month ago I received my copy of issue 1 of the 'Listening Post' via my buddy Dave Liddell of Crieff, Perthshire.
I was particularly interested in copy of the item from 'Shutter Telegraph (whatever that is) and title of Langeleben unit. i.e 101 Wireless Troop and of Lieut Baldwin.
The enclosed photograph of the unit sign was taken of this unit at Hildesheim where I spent most of my time and which, at one time, was called Detachment 1 Wireless Regt.
Lieut Baldwin I recall at Hildesheim and accompanying him on a recce to a site near Dannenberg. A site we later used two or three times with a mobile unit from Hildesheim. We also ranged as far as Gottingen. I believe the initial visit to Langeleben was by this Hildesheim mobile.
I did not make this first visit in 1951 but was there later for a couple of weeks and returned to Hildesheim.
In 1952 I again visited Langeleben and found work under way constructing concrete bases for our ridge tents. I did send some photos to our late secretary Frank Mitchell, when I first made contact, of tents being erected. (that's what should have been happening).
At this time, the Camp consisted of personnel from Hildesheim and Munster (1 Wireless Regt).
My main recollection of Langeleben is of "mud, tea and food tasting of wood smoke, trips to the NAAFI at Helmstedt for a bath and to see a film and spending lonely nights in a trailer a few miles from Camp in a very isolated spot. Really creepy).
I was very glad to return to Hildesheim for the winter.
Looking forwrd to receiving further issues of the 'Listening Post'.
Yors
Harry Benntt (Op Spec 49-53)

Well done Dave.
I reckon that Harry may well be the earliest  of our members to have served at Langeleben and perhaps if the Webmaster has a moment or teo his letter can be squeezed in to the 'Living History'. It deserves a place.
I have never typed 'Hildesheim' so often before!!!!!!!

This is not the only letter of thanks that Marlene received. Obviously she cannot publish them all as they are all saying the same thing and there is plenty else to go in the newsletter.
Well done 'Buddies'

Thanks to Paul

Hi Paul and everyone

Many thanks Paul for doing this for Harry, I am sure he would be delighted to know that his letter was being read by everyone.

Also thanks to Paul for helping sort the mail out and doing some typing for me.  We have a lot on our plate at the moement as our little grandson Max had his 3rd Norwood procedure yesterday on his poorly heart.  Originally it was to be more of a 'patch up' job done as keyhole, but he is physically vy wlel at the moment so they decided on a more risky one yesterday that involved stopping his heart for 6 hours and going in.

So far our courageous little tot is doing really well.  It has been almost 48 hours and he is holding his own.  Obviously we are busy with trips to London and so forth as well as looking after poor old mum who hasn't been too good of late.

I will be looking towards working on the winter edition of The Listening Post mid November so short articles will be very welcome.
