Mazielka

To all you SIGINT specialists out there:

What do you know about "Mazielka"?  (And don't tell me it's a Russian musical instrument).

Re: Mazielka

This is a 6-Tone Selcall system, which is used to call the operator for non-scheduled traffic in CROWD36 mode on the same or another frequency. Operated by FAPSI (RUS)

Next question? Wink

Thanks, Gypo.  I too had hit on that explanation via Google, but I wondered if someone out there could make it a wee bit simpler for me!

Good to have more encouraging news about your health.

Best wishes

Gordon, when we start understanding what we are talking about we will be in serious trouble.
Hope all is well.
I was asked for your email address a couple of weeks ago & had to admit ignorance.

Dear all

My question was not entirely humorous.  Until a few days ago I had never heard of mazielka.  But a friend sent me an MP3 file of two Russian voices holding a conversation over a short wave radio link.  He asked me to try (a) to figure out what they were talking about and (b) to see if they mentioned "mazielka".  I couldn't help him on either score (the recording could hardly be described as loud and clear) though I could recognize some of the numbers, which at first I thought were frequencies, but then concluded they were code.  That led me to Google and the very technical explanation that Marlene and Gypo unearthed.

Priyom!

Gordon (or to use my operational name, Gordon Persevitch)
