Re: MERRY CHRISTMASMerry Christmas to you too Ken and to everyone here.
Here is someone who knows what Christmas is about this year. Our little grandson Max. This will be his first Christmas without being tubed up and preparing for yet another heart operation. His other grandad (not Clive) dressed up in his Santa suit (the beard is real) as he does every year for the special party for children with special needs - all 650 of them - but Max knew his Grandad...
Happy Christmas from Marlene and Gypo

Hi All,
Dusting off the snow after a few days spent in southern Saxony. Our hotel was 700 meters up in the mountains, about a mile from the Czech border, and we were up to our necks in snow, good job I had my long johns on. Really felt like Christmas. Had a lot of fun with lots of gourmet food and drink and local entertainers turned up in the evenings. Visited the Strietzelmarkt (Christmas Market) in Dresden and on the way back drove through Colditz with a look at the Castle. Very impressive.
Regarding keeping in touch, another Forum (Yorkshire Ex-pats) which I contribute to does a rather nice thing on Christmas Eve, at a pre-arranged time, everybody drinks a toast together, then we sign in on the Forum to say that we were there. A nice touch and brings everybody together all over the world. Might be worth trying here one year.
Anyway, have a good one.

Loely idea JR but sadly on Christmas Eve I will be laptopless so can I do it before please?

We like the idea as well very much but have the family over Christmas Eve, can we do it Sunday instead (or any other evening)?

Merry ChristmasMy very best wishes to one and all for the coming festivities. I have very fond, if sometimes blurred, memories of Christmas,s at Langeleben!
As for drinking a toast, why not do it every night, hick !!

Merry ChristmasGawd have just noticed, I have made it from Groupie to Senior Member.
That calls for another toast, CHEERS.

Well done Gerry.
With my number of postings I am awaiting the elevation to "BORING OLD FART".
My Wife has been calling me this for years in anticipation of the great event.
I am putting together something on Brian Patchett so that I can approach Nigel West / Rupert Allason ex-MP the security services expert.
Any contributions in the way of stories etc. scandal etc greatly received. Someone mentionmed having a drink with him an hour before he left. Can I have more on that please? Where was it and when/ What actually was his job and where at the time was he stationed and finally, someone gave me two priceless web references which, typically I have mislaid.
It would have to be a really 'Old Soldier' but can anyone recall anything on the two I Corps who went over in late 54 from memory? I think they were possibly voice ops in Berlin but I can't be sure. If they were I Corps and in Munster they could never have found their way to the frontier.
Thanks in anticipation.
Why may I ask are we not at Church this morning??????
Oh, before I forget 'Cheers'.

Can I add my greetings to everyone for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Talking of the new year, I have never yet made it to a reunion but have booked up for the next one in Loughborough, so hopefully I will be able to put some faces to the names.

MisterB/Dave Look forward to seeing you at Loughborough next year.
I am all for this having a toast and leaving a message on the Forum and it would be nice to beat the record of 7 logged on at one time so just give me a time and date and I will be there.

Now I've returned from yet another carol service, only one more to go before the Feast. This is a busy time of year for our choir, I will be glad when I pack the crimble music away for another year.
I have read the comments regarding the "Christmas Toast" I would be willing to give it a bash, I'll have to contact Tom to get it put on. As a date and time I would suggest Sunday 23rd at 1900 Zulu (or GMT), hopefully our antipodean members will be up for it.
Any great objections to this date/time? Comments? If not, then you'll hear from us anon.

Viper, I resemble that remark.
If you care to call round this evening, I'll stand you drinks all night in the "Danny Eck". There's an offer.
On another tack, does anyone know if Tom the Webmister is away, as he hasn't replied to the Emails I've sent him regarding the Toast?

Hi All, Sunday 23rd seems like a good day, but it doesn’t leave much time to practice. I managed to get one warmer into the bank on Sunday, and another tonight, however that only leaves five working days of rehearsals; so if I appear a bit off target on Sunday, please make suitable allowances. All the best. Dave T.

Hi all
Is this an event us NAAFI girls can join in this time? You usually shut me out before and got up to something strange in the Naafi at Christmas. You aren;t dressing up are you? If Gypo puts one of my dresses on, I'm off.

Hughie,
What's all this 'back to life '?
With one or two brief periods it seems to stagger on most of the time.
It must be that the subjects we waffle on about just don't appeal.

I will not be around on the 23rd - I will be in computer limbo at my mother's but sounds like a good excuse for a drink..!!
I will have one with you in spirit - not that I drink spirits or course, only fortified wine (port) but (shut up rambling Bob...............)
Have a good and peaceful one, wherever you are and remember me trying to be nice at the in-laws............

David B,please don,t get us confused with the times,Gerry is talking 1900 hrs and you have mentioned 1700hrs,its no the wonder we get bad press off these Icorps wallahs,so please some body make a decision of a definite time for the party to begin and lets stick by it,a merry xmas to all from ken.
|
paul croxson
|
Ken,That is thoroughly unfair!
WE I Corps wallahs just like something simple like 7oclock in the evening ignoring the fact that the JR's in this world may then get confused living as they do abroad, and ... hell's bells, he's I Corps anyway. I am just waiting for the Australian contingent to add a word or hundred and what about the international date line to confuse us whilst we are at it?
|
ken vipond
|
Paul,i think JR has opened a can of worms with this one,let alone the time differences what about the poor old soles who don,t even know what day it is never mind the time, but after saying all of that i bet it goes like clockwork, boom boom, best regards from Ken.

Sorry for my mistake I will amend my booking to read 1900hrs you might call it a typist error,or an old mans careless attempt to join in the proceedings SORRY

Ok Guys, I think I’ve got the solution. Clearly our OZ contingent are going to miss out. To be in line with us at 231900Z they will need to be up and about at 0630 (local) on 24th Christmas Eve, that is just too early for an Australian Shiraz. What I suggest, is we start just after breakfast on Sunday, that should be early evening over there, we can keep the corks popping during the day picking up Richard and his I Corps cronies at five O’clock moving swiftly on to the preordained rendezvous at 1900Z ready for the festivities to begin. All those in favour say Aye. All the best, Dave T

Richard, don't worry if you want 1700 hrs I can manage it as I'll have a toast on every hour during Sunday 23rd. I think we all deserve it. 55Keith
PS must remember to get an extra bottle of Malt

I don't think I could manage a slice of toast every hour. Would be terribly windy.

NOW HEAR THIS!
I have now managed to contact Tom (I was using a now-defunct e-mail address).
So... the toast will be posted sometime on Saturday, and will be locked until 1900 GMT (seven p.m. in old money) on Sunday, 23rd December 2007, when you can down your tipple and post your message.
The topic will then stay open for 24 hours, which will enable our members in Outer Mongolia or Sunderland to join in at their leisure. (If they don't like it they can organise it next year).
Hope that finds favour with you all.
Prosit,
The Toastmaster-General

I haven't had Malt for years Keith, I still take my cod liver oil though as they tell me 'its good for my joints'.
Why is it anything 'good for you' tastes invariably foul and anything good invariably delicious?
Just a thought! Will the teeming thousands likely to log in on the Big Hour put a brief note whether they read the history?
|
kerby
|
Paul, I read your history regularly and think you are doing a great job. Keith

GerryK
|
Paul, I look at the History Project very often. Have saved the latest to disc. Thought about printing it but it would have taken for ever. Must agree you have done a great job. Gerry.
|
paul croxson
|
Thanks Gerry
I was NOT fishing for compliments - I just wanted to get a feel of what was the view on it.
I recommend that no one prints just yet. I have several new contributors in the pipeline including Dennis Weir whose views and recollections cover a period where we are somewhat lacking.
Every day I look in case there is a contribution from young Patchett. NOW that would be a real coup. WE could probably sell it and raise enough to print the book.
|
misterbee
|
Paul, I regularly read the history and find it facinating. I am still trying to get a few recollections down to send you. Hopefully there will be something in the new year. On a different tack, is there any way you can highlight the new entries? Red lining or something. It would make it a lot easier then to pick out the new bits? I think you have done a fabulous job.
Dave B.
|
paul croxson
|
Thanks Dave,
Yes, that's a very good idea which I will work on with Guru TOM
I will put all new entries in a different type face or a different colour as that won't metter unless one tries to print.
Glad you are enjoying it!
I had an idea. The disappearing Patchett wasn't an advanced version of the "disappearing lady trick" that you perfected during your Army days ?
That really would be something and put even Houdini in the shade

I will be away from now and computerless so, May I wish all of you the happiest of Christmases and prosperous new years. OUr's are clouded by my Daughter's terrible loss.
Thanks to all of you - I am privileged to be able to count you amongst my friends.
I am truly blessed as a result.
Have a drink for me, but I might yet make it!
