Don't let me disturb your slumbers but, should any of you Techie lot wake up and find that you have a few moments to spare could you please let me know the type and make and the year used of sets at Langeleben?
Has ANYONE got hidden away ANYWHERE pictures of the interior of the wagons or the DF van (with or without the female company)? I promise that you will remain anonymous and free from persecution by the Authorities.
Many thanks in anticipation of shoals of replies
David Thomas
Hi Paul, I tried this a month or two ago in "Does Size Matter?" Tom was very helpful and gave as complete a reply as I could of hoped for. That pretty well covers the early years, what we need now is what happened when energy conservation came into fashion, transistors replaced valves; 225 replaced 13, Gorbachov replaced Andropov, and WMD replaced common sense. Can any of you youngsters help? we really do want to know. Dave T

Hi Paul and Dave, I can remember a piece of DF kit which we used out in the field in Germany back in 1963/4. It was ex Naval and it was called a PR58 (with oscilloscope). Quite modern for the day (even though the Navy had thrown it out ). Was very good for picking up Radio Caroline at the time !! The sets we used in our mobile setroom were R216's and Eddisons (or was it Eddystones ). After that we really got up to date when we were supplied with Racals.

Hi Merv, it seems the Army came in for quite a lot of the Navy’s cast off’s. In 3 Div we were equipped with D11’s/R234’s which were probably very good when on board ship or in a nice warm shore station, they were less so in the back of an Austin K9, and even worse in a trailer mounted Airtech container. Valves and bouncing never did go well together!. Any way let’s get back to what equipment was used at Langeleben, and finding pictures of them. Dave T.

Ah,memories, mention of me olde mate Eddy Stone, two chrome handles on each side of the front panel,so one could take it to the tip and drop it in.They were almost a copy of Marconi receivers used aboard ship but not half as good.
Racal pale blue 217's were the dogs, the only reason for doing a night shift cos of the heat from the top,it was a hybrid jobbie, trusty valves and them new fangled transistor things that will not catch on.!
Outside Nottingham station, near County football ground over the river is a govt surplus place with plenty of both,I go there quite often to see and touch with emotion!
