SSAFA

May I ask if any members of the forum know of friends or ex colleagues who have benefited from the work of SSAFA?
Our local church selects two charities each year to benefit from the Christmas collections and, in view of the recent publicity about the under provision of care etc. to returning services personnel and their families, it has been suggested that SSAFA should be one of those selected this year.  I’ve checked out the website and I will be contacting the local rep but additional info from a known source would be helpful.  Obviously it would be improper to disclose names or any other information which would identify the beneficiaries so an outline of the service provided would be fine.
Many thanks, Ron

Just an update in case any SSAFA supporters look in.  Today I sent a cheque for £410 to the local branch, that being SSAFA's share of the Christmas collections.   I was surprised how few people, even oldies like myself, had even heard of SSAFA or knew of the work they do.

Hi Ron

Perhaps you may like to pen a few words for our new newsletter and get word out there in that case?

OK Marlene, I'll put a few notes together.  Also , I won't be offended if my article is rejected in favour of a better offer.
Happy New Year to you both.

I am sure your article will be of interest Ron.  We just have to ask that articles aren't too long as we want to pack the newsletter with as much as we can as everyone voted for initially just two newsletters a year and 4 pages each copy so that isn't a lot of space for long articles.  If the system works and the lads want more then we can of course get more adventurous.  I am used to working with 16-26 pages so a 4 page one is no trouble. We are mindful of the fact that our buddies out of the goodness of their hearts are printing the pages and posting them so don't want to incur too much cost to everyone with additional pages.
