TranslationI just went over to the Guestbook and there is a message there (new one) from A.M. which i think may have had a translation done by by that esteemed online translation service 'babelfish' can we now have it in English please?
I think it is saying that the granny worked or lived in Langeleben and told her grandchildren many stories about it....
OK whose granny is out there spilling the beans? And what is she saying about us?

Hi David, you probably should have left that one alone, you know the old saying, let sleeping dogs lie, well grandmother,s and all that you might be opening a can of worms, best regards from Ken

Hi Ken, I might have guessed, any mention of granny would wake you up. I've no concerns on that score, for all my teenage years at Langeleben, a can of worms was the most exciting thing I ever got to open! All the best. Dave T.

Hi Everyone, I've had a reply from A.M. It's probably better if I cut and paste my original email and the reply then you can all see what has been said. I would welcome any responses you care to suggest.
My first email:-
We were very interested to read your contribution to the Langelaben website. We would be even more interested to learn who your Grandmother was, and what stories she told you about us. It is very possible that we may be able to help you with one or more tale about what happened back in the time when we were young.
With kindest regards.
David Thomas. At Langelaben 1963 to 1966.
Hello Mr Thomas,
My English is not so good, I hope they understand it anyway können. Meine grandmother says Jutta Thiel, who was born and has Dammann as I understand it as a force in long working life were the years which I can not say more should nachfragen. Was I still know that her sister Christa Cooper to which they unfortunately no longer has a contact Ernie (perhaps nickname) Cooper married hat. Ich believe in the gallery, I have a picture of the two terms, the two also know only from erzählungen my Oma. Meiner Grandma, it would be important to make contact with the two produce perhaps someone she knows and knows where they now live.
I look forward to a response.
Love greetings Angelo

Ernie and Christa Cooper live in Sileby, Leics and are both well. I saw them in Loughborough last November but Ernie is still not interested in any reunions which he makes a point of telling me each time I see him.

Hi Tom, Thanks for that, I thought you would probably be able to add something. From what I can make out of Angelo's message, he would like some form of cantact for Ernie and Christa. If you have a contact for Ernie, perhaps you could ask him if it is in order to pass it on, Christa might even like to get in touch directly. All the best, Dave T.

JuttaI remember Jutta from when she first came to work as Officers/SNcos waitress. That would be around 61/62 time. Did mention her to Ernie sometime ago, but he told me they dont have any contact, and I got the impression that this was the way they wanted it. To look at, Jutta was very like Crista. If it were me, I would let sleeping dogs lie.

I am with Gerry on keeping out of it.
I only see Ernie and Christa by chance when I visit Loughborough and do not have any means of contacting them but I got the feeling many years ago that they had cut themselves off from Königslutter for personal reasons.

I also wrote to Angelo and got this reply today:
Hallo Frau Brooks,
Oh das freut mich das sie sich gemeldet haben da wollte ich mich schonmal bedanken.
(I am very pleased that you made contact with me)
(Yes, you may know my grandmother who was Jutta Thiel. She worked in Langeleben at various times, I have yet to ask her. She has a sister Cjhrista Cooper who married Ernie Cooper. I have seen Ernie in the gallery. Unfortunately my grandmother jhas lost contact with her sister Christa, maybe someone knows where she is living? My grandmother would very much like to see her again)
Ps.Das mit meiner Rechtschreibung ist auch nicht so gut da ich Italiener und halb Deutscher bin.
(my writing isn’t so good as I am Italian and half German)
Es hat mich wiegesagt Riesig gefreut das sie sich gemeldet haben.
(I am really pleased you made contact)
Viele liebe Grüße aus Königslutter
Angelo
As I was a mere 11 year old in 1961 and nowhere near Langeleben I can honestly say I never knew her.
Seems a shame when these family splits happen especially when the youngsters want to meet long lost relatives but from what I am reading on here I can't see a 'surprise surprise' coming up and it's none of my business.

Just been talking to Mrs. JR, she knows Jutta Thiel well, she became the Mess Supervisor for about 20 years (before Ilona Hawxwell),early 60s to 1978, is still living in Slutter. She was very highly thought of by the troops, always smartly dressed. Her daughter married an Italian, lives in Wolfsburg (presumably the mother of Angelo).
As you say, it's a shame, but we don't know the whys and wherefores of what's gone before, so it's probably better to keep out of it.

So Jutta was there when I was there 1969/70?

enquiry concerning possible contact for ernie cooper/ family.
ernie has expressed that he and his family do NOT wish to have any
contact whatsoever on this matter.

Hi Peter and everyone. Obviously members who want to keep their details private have the absolute right to have their wishes respected.
As I copied the full text of previous emails I will do the same for this last one.
"Greetings Angelo
Thank you for your email, I see that you also sent a message to Marlene. A number of soldiers and some wives remember with fondness your grandmother Jutta from the very long time she worked at the camp. We hope she is keeping well.
I have to tell you that we will not pass on any details of Christa & Ernie.
Yours sincerely
David Thomas"

Hi Peter
Thanks for clearing that up and making Ernie and Christa's wishes known. If Anglelo writes again I can truthfully say that sadly I didn't know his family. Clive doesn't remember either sister.
