visitors to the websiteCan any of the 30 visitors to the website on Tuesday 29th January 2008 please explain what was the great attraction? It was a funny time to create a record number of visitors.
I was earning an honest crust so I plead 'not guilty'

Hi Paul, Pete, Bob, Fred, Peter Mick and other 55 guys I have forgotten, I am taking my time in keying this in so that I get a posting in the early hours of the 9th. Sitting here with a glass in my hand watching a load of 'drivel' on the telly so thought I would say 'Hi Guys' hope you are all keeping well. I am really looking forward to the re-union at Loughborough in May so that I can meet up with some 'old buddies' You have mentioned walking back to camp through the forest after a few beers late at night. I remember doing the same and on one occassion, with about eight of us, including 'Robbo' the driver, having to 'hold hands' so we did not get lost.
They were great times, we all looked after one another, great spirit. Keith of 55.

Don't forget young Ken, as well, Keith.
And Pete Jones has staggered out of the woodwork so we can get confused with him and Peter Ellis. There's also Bill Taylor too so there will be (if we all make it) a heck of a lot of us. Oh, and there is Chris Gregory who's photos I have to get on the website too (as he has gently reminded me). There is one of me which caused great amusement in the family as I look about 13yrs old.

By the way, Keith,
Chris seems to have been on the trip to the VW factory as well. I wonder how many of us went?

All you old 55ers talk about looking forward to the reunion in May but as far as I can see none of you have confirmed yet, I know that you have until the end of April but it would be nice if you could put pen to paper, phone or e- mail your bookings to me ASAP so as to join the 60 already booked. Less talk, more action.
From a 57er.

Sorry Ernie
I forgot Mike Stubbins and perhaps Nobby Clarke will come along too. Bob Wells will already be there of course

Sorry Ernie, Never book anything that far in advance on the basis that one can usually get it cheaper by leaving it till the last minute. Or is it that when one gets to our age, we tend to not look so far forward. It sounds as though I have got to change my habits. Keith of 55

Hi the 55's just to let you know I'll be at the reunion, unfortunately I will be off the air for a couple of weeks until I replace my computer which has gone on the blink big time. Look forward to seeing you all in May

Visitors to the WebsitePaul. I have tried this on several occasions (SEE THE FOLLOWING TO THIS MISSIVE) and it basically boils down to the 'Voyeurs', them that like to watch and not participate, for whatever reason. Then there are those that do but only occasionally, God, it sounds like my sex life!
I have tried e-mailing the memebers that look and don't and am still in contact with a few of them. Equally I have tried those that are members and don't or never have and got pretty much the same answer.
The best answer I got and this was from someone I am in regular contact with was, I like to look and see whats going on but I really don't have much to say that is constructive. I prefer a more general, open, humourous site, where we can discuss anything and everything and if we need help on any subject, get it.
When I said we could do the same he said 'Effof', in a way I have to agree but then I also cut my cloth to the site(s) I am on. I love this site but despite the fact that I can open a topic on any subject, feel constricted. Equally on other sites, if I said ' I am having problems on Vista with..... , There would probably be more answers than I could cope with.
What we have to do is decide if we only want to limit topics to Langeleben, all eras and all different, or spread our wings slightly and encompass others that were there but not necessarily Signals or I Corps but all who were there, or, just throw it open to a general debate.
Or would it be possible to have it on two levels, one purely Langeleben and the other to any Royal Signals personnel who wishes to contribute.
For what it may be worth, I do not see anything detrimental to either running the site on two levels or throwing it open. If I take the Royal Signals Yahoo site as being the epitomy of ' Throwing it open', then I cannot fault it. The only reason I left the site was that, due to my job as a 25/8 Light Haulier, I could not keep up with things at that time. There was, however, a strict code of conduct that was adheared to by all and I would say it was exemplary.
Those of you who go back far enough know I have raised this topic previously and as before I leave it to the majority and will abide by the general concensus.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Genitals and Gentitalesses, it would appear that there are literally hundreds of you the look and then do Sweet F A, WHY??
If what you see is not what you want then ask us what you want and await the flood of miscreants that will appear like Woodlice when you turn a stone. If you have an problem from AC/DC to Xenophopbia, couldn't think of one beginning Z. Yes I have, Zaidism. You don't have to necessarily talk about Scharfoldendorf or Langeleben treat it as a chat room swap jokes, tell about experiences, ask for help on problems BUT TALK, I think I can guarantee a response to most queries or responses, come on Hundreds of you passed through the portals so TALK, TALK, TALK and make this site the success it should be.

Mike has indeed struggled to get people to join in and again he is right to separate the readers from the contributors.
Firstly when he talks of a two tier site it is not a Royal Signals site but a Langeleben site. We do have a place, we I Corps chaps. There is a feeling of estrangement at the formal parts of the meetings. They are totally RS. I don't normally bother with them, except at Konigslutter I wanted to raise the subject of the Living History. So ... can we leave things as they are where we are all equal and equally boring? It reflects the way we all worked together.
500 days of enforced pleasure some 50 odd years ago wear thin when it comes to filling a Forum. I find that I recall so little that it is remarkable, and people say that I have a good memory too!
I met up with Chris Gregory yesterday. We hadn't seen each other for 52 years and I would never have recognized him nor he me, I am sure. We could recall so little of our time together it was sad in a way. Luckily our lives since have been interesting so all was not lost. A good time!
There will always be blank times. I had hoped the History would evoke more memories and more responses but 'No', it isn't like that.
AS long as Tom is a willing workhorse and there are those of us interested my answer to Mike is " it aint broke so don't try and fix it"

visitors to the websitePaul, beleive it or not I totally agree with you, Langeleben was a mixed site and anyone who served there is more than welcome. Which is why I suggested that the ACC, RAOC, RAPC, REME etc may have been able to contribute to your requirements.
Both Scharfolendorf and Langeleben were units of mixed parentage, it mattered not who was the majority because when push came to shove we all required one another. Yes the Spec Ops were the majority but without their other Signals compatriots and without the other Unit memebers all would have been for nothing.
Perhaps, in someways, the Spec Ops and I Corps were as one, each depended on the other and without either there would have been no Langeleben, Yet the same also applies to those of other Chapels. Speaking for both Scharfoldendorf and Langeleben as a member of 225, we were one and we all depended on one another. I cannot speak for your time Paul but I can only imagine that the same dictum applied.
What ever your Corps, anyone who was at Langeleben, was Langeleben but then the same applies to those such as Marlene, who served with the NAAFI, the Civilian staff, in whatever position they served. They were all integral to the success of Langeleben and all deserve recognition.

Equal opportunity to contribute and have it included has been extended to everyone who was at Langeleben. Marlene, I am sure, would confirm that she has been well represented. I could add to your list the MSO guards who would be a source of fascinating stories but probably they are now all dead. Time passes! I bet JR will correct me.
Even a cursory glance tells you that the I Corps have done their best to make the history worthwhile despite being outnumbered 10 to 1.
Should we have included th R.A.O.B?

A fair number of 225, in the 70's, were members of the RAOB Hilltop Lodge at Wolfenbuttel - a good excuse for a couple of 'wets'.

Thanks for the confirmation JR. You shouldn't be spending time reading this drivel but working on the final chapters of your History. Young Weir is champing at the bit to see his contribution up on the web but I have been holding back hoping to have your contribution as well
