We are ashamed to say that although we have took advantage of all the fine amenities on the site and the friendship you have shown to us, we have finally taken the plunge! We investigated joining when Frank Mitchell was still with us and he was taking us through. 'Signing up' after Frank passed seemed to fall by the wayside "we'll do it tomorrow" we said

Then, this week we decided to make it official and approached Ernie, and are now fully fledged members. Gypo even remembered his army number (AND Ron Mason's). I didn't have a number as I am the first NAAFI girl to sign up so Ernie made me No. 1!

So, it's almost like our wedding night all over again. We have 'lived together' a few years and now it's all official.

Congratulations, did what? I am sitting here, half way down my third bottle of medicinal whiskey, don't tell Hilary, she thinks I am on Lucozade. Eyes watering, nose running, coughing like a 50 a day man, throat like sandpaper and along comes 'WE DID IT'.
I therefore find you guilty as charged and sentence you to be Flogged Round the Fleet. I have a bid of onepence from Shorep but as it comprises one halfpenny, old style and two farthings, I don't think it's legal tender. Any other offers for one slightly knackered Gypo and a Tassel Twirling Wench from Harlot, sorry Harlow?
I know I am going to get laughed at but that's normal so I care not, I have a Currys 12/6p brain, (Monty Python) and it hurts. Put me out of my misery, preferably with a bottle (or crate) of Laphroaig, if not, both barrels of Titanic Ale, that's Iceberg and White Star.

Langeleben cure for a cold when I ws in the NAAFI there was hot lemonade, good dose of whisky 20 pfg a shot and a chest rub with Vick.

When I got a stinking cold and was confined to my billet I had plenty of supplies brought down, and several of the lads introducing themselves as Vic!

What did we do?

Gypo and I were active members here and when Frank Mitchell was still with us, he was going to sign us up. He sadly passed and we having been living in 'sin' with all of you since then. We never paid our subs and were never listed.

This week I wrote to Ernie on behalf of both of us and the cheque has gone off and we are now listed on the memberlist page along with all of you. There is now A Brooks (no relation) C Brooks, himself and M Brooks which is me. Not being army I didn't have a number and being the only NAAFI member Ernie gave me the number '1'. Well it's better than being a No. 2!

Sorry, in my ignorance I thought one had to be a member to attend the reunion until himself took me to one side and explained that was not the case and we were not 'legal' members until we had signed the pledge. Since we had begun proceedings all those years ago, wasn't it about time we contacted Ernie coughed up some dough and made it legal. We have now got certificates and everything. We are the 444th member (Gypo) and 445 (me). I do hope we will meet you all one day. It will be an honour.

Am I missing summat but unless you were 'Legitimate' you could not have logged on to this Forum? I never got a certificate, 'SULK' but not do I want one, unless it is number 225.
