What was.......

the message on the notice.
Look at the notice in front of the "Wagons".
Now, I know that our cameras at that time were somewhat pathetic compared to our digital wonders of today, and as photographers - enough said.
Goodness knows if anyone will remember anyway, but you never can tell!

Can anybody remember?

Tom Neal

Do not know for sure but I think it said 'No unauthorised personnel allowed beyond this point'
Of course if you came from another direction, no problem.
Tom
David Thomas

No Tom, I think your memory has proved a little fallible, I'm sure it said "Do Not Disturb". All the best. Dave

I think you are both wrong,i think it says PLEASE KEEP OFF THE GRASS.
marleneandgypo

I think it would make a good puzzle for the readers of our newsletter so if no one has an objection I'll put it in.

Since the fine figure of a soldier is my old friend Bill Taylor (pride of the Int Corps) I will ask him if he recalls what it said. As we both creep in to our dotage our memories start to fail us so don't expect miracles from him
Gordon

"The end of the world is nigh?"  It nearly was, throughout the fifties, as a reading of the history of post-war intelligence reveals.
paul croxson

I must confess. It said
                                      "FOR SALE"
Two pairs of Royal Sigs shoulder flashes and one tarnished 'Jimmy' for sale. No offer refused.
I was on my way back to the I Corps for my demob

Bill Taylor (he's the bloke in the photo, by the way) tells me that it said
Restricted area entry forbidden or Eintrit strreng verboten.
He must have had eyes in the back of his head!
By the way, young Thomas. It looks as if Bill was wearing shoes too so I wasn't the only one to cut a bit of a dash. He was too 'middle class' though, to have gone for the yellow socks. No wonder he became an officer!
By the way, BIll tells me he reads this drivel. How sad can you get. The miserable blighter won't come to Langeleben; I suppose he's waiting for me to offer to pay his fare. (which I would willingly do. We had some great times)
David Thomas

You are of course correct Paul, I fact I had to scroll back up to check the photo to ensure Bill didn’t have turnups as well. All the best. Dave.

Yeh, Very clever Tom, now show it with "Do not Disturb" Cynical to the end. All the best. Dave.

Don't encourage him!
Next thing we know he will turn it into a mobile brothel
David Thomas

First Class, Well done Tom, I only wish I could manipulate my photo’s in the same way, you never know I might loose 4 stone overnight! Marlene, it looks as if you still have a competition for the News Sheet. Dave.
marleneandgypo

Oh really????
