I noticed reference to 12 Wireless in this History section, and I wonder if I may be prermitted to go off at a slight tangent here on this subject.
I am in touch with a Manfred Benkel at the moment, a former CO of the Bundeswehr based at the Karfreit Kaserne, where 12 Wireless was stationed betwen 1955 to 1958. Manfred has written a book on the history of the kaserne between 1935 and now, and in it he makes a brief reference to our stay, but , as he was unable to contact anyone who had been there, I think this chapter will be short! ( I await a copy of the book).
In order to help him update his research I have answered what questions he has asked of my time there...(I was transferred to Langeleben following the closure). He does ask for any photos of our time there, and I have sent him copies of what I have, (the only photos on the Birgelen site).
Are there any ex 12 Wireless personnel also transferred to Langeleben out there with their old photos of their time at 12 Wireless?? There seems to be so few about.
If you can find any photos, please e mail them to me and I will send them on to Manfred.
