The Langeleben Christmas Toast by JR
Fifty-six years ago, the first members of a probe section from 101 Wireless Troop set up their tents on a field on the eastern slope of the Elm. Forty-one years later the curtain came down on a little-known chapter of British military history. Over the years the state of the camp changed, as did the equipment, unit title and role. The one thing that couldn’t be changed was that intangible, indestructible and priceless spirit which has continued through the years and has culminated in the founding of our Reunion Branch. Our thanks to those who sacrifice so much time and effort to make it such a success.
One thing the inmates in the early years could not have envisaged was the evolution of the computer into an object in our daily lives. Thanks to the internet, we can today enjoy a form of togetherness around the world, which only a few years ago would have been unthinkable. Thanks also to those who have made our Website and Forum such a success.
At this time of year, thoughts turn to our families and friends, many of these friendships forged during our time at Langeleben. We think also of those who are no longer with us, again, many of them enriched our lives in Langeleben. Spare a thought also for those who came after us and are even now carrying on the high standards of the Y services in unpleasant areas of the world.
A merry Christmas and happy New Year to one and all!
Lady and Gentlemen, please raise your glasses and drink a toast to “Langeleben.”

The toast will stay locked until SUNDAY 23rd December at 7pm GMT. At that moment it will be unlocked so you can post your name under it to say you were here.
The topic will stay open for comments for 24 hours, after which it will be locked again.

Hi All, I told you that I would get it wrong if we didn't have enough practice, still I'm here now and you can all relax, good to see all your names coming up, have a great Christmas, and see you in May. Dave T. _________________ Dave Thomas 2 Sqn 13 SR, '63-'66 |
