Well folks,
Was that the best re-union ever, or what?
Königslutter was in full bloom, the streets were clean,( not a trace of chewing gum) the weather was hot and sunny - What more could we ask?
It’s always nice to see the regular attendees at these little junkets, and just that little bit nicer to see those who have managed to turn up for the first time. I hope those who travelled great distances enjoyed it as much as I did.
As usual, the Hotel was spotless, the food excellent, the entertainment was prima and the staff were polite, efficient and cheerful….Well done to all those involved in setting the whole thing up and…….Roll on the next one!

My first reunion at 'Slutter. It was a excellent weekend - well organised, with grand company - which made all the travelling worthwhile. We will definitely make the effort to attend the next one, with the intention of buying more beer tickets at the start!!
Thanks to everyone for making it a weekend to remember

Derek 1

Hi Derek 1,
Glad you enjoyed your first 'slutter re-union. They're like a drug you know - difficult to give up once you start
There's always plenty of good company and lots to talk about, though there always seems to be a dearth of 'those' jokes that were plentyful in days of old...Nevertheless we have a good time.
Hope to see you at Loughborough in 2006.

Yes it was a good reunion, sorry I had to duck out early on Sunday morning, but I was singing in Braunschweig in the afternoon. Always nice to see new (old ) faces. Last time I saw Bob Crockart was in Kuwait in 1990! How time flies when you're enjoying yourself.

I still miss the Schützenfest, it really is the icing on the cake to take part in the march through 'Slutter, and the booze-up in the tent followed by the "hangover breakfast" is always enjoyable (we must be balmy).. I hope the point was made at the shooting club do on Sunday afternoon.

Hope Mac enjoys the CD, hope Dave Street hasn't succumbed to temptation and tried the Ratzeputz

One of the best, although all our reunions seem to have something going for them. The weather helped but its the people who make them. Would love to see some new faces at Loughborough next year, we seem to have about 300 members who never seem to make it.
Am going back to Germany on Monday 13th June for a cruise down thr Rhine to Switzerland, hope the weather is still as good. Read the reunion report on the website.

What a fantastic weekend, our thanks to all who helped to make this the best reunion to date. I will not be rushing off at lunch time on Sunday again.
May there be many more.

I have just received Ernie's letter regarding the memorial. Another onerous task that he has undertaken. Thank you Ernie.
Firstly on what pedants used to call "points of Order" I don't recall any decision being reached or the subject being broached as to whether or not we should keep away from the Military aspect of our stay there. As an uncommitted voice may I point out that the 'Military' aspect was our raison d'etre and probably the basic reason for our being welcomed over so many years. Do we discuss this? I don't mind either way.
When I heard at the re-union of the Langeleben opportunity I must say that it appealed to me enormously and I would hope that, like the site, the memorial would be gradually absorbed into the landscape. If it is intended merely as a 'Thank you' to the community of Konigslutter then again we are moving ground but to an area that also appeals to me. There is a generation issue here too. The only locals I ever got to meet were either at or behind a bar. I was certainly never lucky enough to get close to those few girls who would 'fraternise' with the English soldiers. (If you look at my photo on the Album you will possibly understand why). I think it wonderful that this changed and that Langeleben squaddies truly left their mark on the community and integrated to the degree that they did.
The ONLY point on which I am totally clear is that Pete Ellis' Son, Paul, must be involved in this even at the risk of hurting the odd feeling or two at the School. My dear friend Pete will surely forgive me for saying that Paul is, himself, a monument to all the good that came from the union of Germany and the British soldier .
Finally ... that proposal of the 'ear and the barrier' should be immediately binned. However, the 'ear concept' alone had some merit and might be worth developing. Well, at least in my view!
I am happy to make a donation and will. Do we do it now or wait to see how much it is going to cost and then fund it?

Paul, in reference to your last posting, the subject of holding back on the military aspect of our sojourn at langeleben was broached at the reunion and by me, it was only my opinion, and members are entitled to theirs, but I think that our interaction with the local poplace should be highlated within the text of the memorial, but again only my opinion. The letter Just sent to all members asked for their thoughts on form graphics and text and it is a concencus that we are looking for. As for sending donations now or later it is a chicken and egg situation, we need to know the size of our budget before can decide on the form of the memorial so it's send you donations as soon as poss, it's your money we're after.
Ernie.

Sorry Ernie, I missed it. Must have momentarily dozed off. I don't think there is the slightest need for concern over a general concensus. We all want it and we will all pay willingly I am sure, each to his own ability.
Good luck
