The Living History is now 140 A4 pages in 12pt and I still have all the pictures to put in.
I think that it has reached the point when everyone should see it, criticise it if necessary, not least correct my errors and even think of more history to include.
The draft History Project is now on the website. There is also a Form to fill out if you have any comments, suggestions or additional stories.

May I add, in the final version I will have corrected all the spelling and grammatical errors. I am more interested in being told about factual errors etc..

Thanks to Tom, the Living History is up and being read.
We are getting several more contributions and comments on entries. As it is 'Living' we can add new entries and I would welcome more and more of them particularly from the Sigs for the 60's, 70's and 80's. Don 't let the I Corps dominate it please!

Hello Paul,
As a living history is there an end date in sight?
There will always be someone who pops up with memories so when can we call it a day and see something in print?
I know there is cost involved etc which you know more about than I do but what I want is to be able to buy a book.
I know I can read it on the website but what I want is a book in my hand and not a screen to look at.

Well Tom, several points. If I don't get any more contributions following my appeal and the AGM then we have to accept that it may be living but fully grown. The trouble is that i feel that there is so much more that could be written.Secondly, as a book it would have to be re-written which I am happy to do and then the cost of financing it has to be considered. It wouldn't be cheap! And then, how many copies do you think that we could sell? Ten, twenty, a hundred? To be a commercial proposition it would need a print run, I THINK, of about 500.
I am trying to get the I Corps Assocn interested in a book on the Corps and the Y service as it is missing this vital area in the records. In this respect it is still early days.
On a personal basis I would be reluctant, now I have stopped work (1st May), to fund a book in the hopes that it gets bought.
I welcome any comments from everyone on this

Hello Paul,
On a print run of 500 and a membership of 400 odd I can see that it is a no goer.
On another tack perhaps it could be issued as a DVD/CD which we could purchase and then print if we wanted to.
I am on dial up and no way can I download the present format but that is only my problem.

What I now do with Tom is to send the text to him on a cheap memory stick which he then returns to me. I could send it to you too

Hi Paul,i have been reading your recent post to Tom regarding the history project,is there any advantage of having the project on a memory stick as against having the same information that you have already compiled on the Langeleben web, i assume the info is exactly the same,or is it easier to copy from the memory stick to a dvd/cd,what i must add is that you and Tom have done a fantastic job between you both in producing a very interesting article,you deserve to have free drink all of the weekend at our reunion in Loughborough this year, Laughing

I think, repeat 'think' that the problem is where people are not on Broadband. and as a result it takes an eternity to download the whole damned thing. I forget that not everyone has a fast computer and access to the internet on broadband and rely on a simple landline connection.
Tom Neal has something here and I will ask Tom for his technical input. Perhaps we can produce a CD for 'sale' if only to recover the production cost and put a quid or two in the kitty.
For the record I don't want to make a single penny out of this as it has been a genuine labour of love. If there is anything to be made perhaps it can go to the Memorial fund but that is really jumping the gun.
As for the free drinks Ken what a lovely idea and it won't cost a great deal based on my current ability to drink!

I would love to know how many cd's of the history you have produced. Is it a great deal of trouble to do. I would like three copies please. One for the I Corps Museum one for the Intelligence Corps Association and the other to send to the Imperial War Museum which was the origin for my wanting to do this project. I will be delighted to send the £15 if that's the right amount

Gerry approached me some time ago asking if he could make cd copies of the history for those not on broadband etc and who could not download the history. He was going to make a small charge (£5) which would go to the Memorial Fund. I had absolutely no objection as I had never claimed copyright to anything (how could I?). The Museum has no broadband connection and had only downloaded a bit of the History and Margaret the Sec of ICA has not read it so ... I thought I would give Gerry a bit of work, the Memorial fund a few quid and get the history a little bit more known.
I had overlooked that much of this had been done in direct emails from Gerry to me hence you being left slightly in the dark.
Oops!
